Outlook Hangs on shutdown

I have been experiencing severe problems with Outlook 2003 and 2007 hanging
on shutdown, with the only remedy is to use task manager to close outlook.

Having tried all the ideas I have found e.g. disable add-ins, create new
user etc. The fault appears to be down to Outlook Hotmail connector, which as
we have 4 seperate email accounts, one of which is hotmail this facility is
ideal, however the early version did not work at all and the latest beta
caused the hang problem on shutdown with CPU reaching 99%.

Removal has completely rectified the problem on all our machines of which
some are running Outllook 2003 and others are using Outlook 2007.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Best Regards

Well, that's why it is labeled BETA ;-)

What you could try is renaming extend.dat and outcmd.dat to .old

Dear Roady

Thank you very much for your response, I am fully aware of the meaning of a
beta as probably like yourself I have been a beta tester for many years.

I hope that my previous post came across in the correct manner as I know a
number of people are experiencing hangs within Outlook 2003 and 2007 and as
we have been unable to get the full version of Outlook connector to work
correctly for us, we tried the Beta version, which whilst working correctly,
in our case it caused severe hang problems on shutdown.

Your suggestions of renaming of outcmd.dat and extend.dat to old
unfortunately did not work in our case.

Once again thank you for your assistance.

Best Regards
Stuart

I was having the same problem. I uninstalled the Microsoft Outlook Personal
Folders Backup tool add-in from Outlook 2007 using Control Panel's Add/Remove
Programs and the problem was resolved.
