Outlook IMAP folder configuration problem

I am using Outlook 2003 with SP2. I used to sync to an Exchange server but
now access an IMAP server. I have created a default e-mail account that is
ANSI standard for the IMAP server (old Outlook format). I also have a new
e-mail account within Outlook that has various folders in it.

I would like to merge everything together including all the e-mail in the
inbox etc. When I drag an e-mail from the new Outlook 2003 e-mail account to
the old account it transfers correctly. However I cannot then delete it from
that folder - the delete option is greyed out, I have to drag it out back to
a new format Outlook e-mail account folder.

Currently the old emial account (Old Outlook, ABSI) has the sent folder,
incoming e-mail gets sent to the new e-mail account. I would prefer it if
everything was sernt and received by the one e-mail account.

The knowledgebase suggests that everything will have to be ANSI standard
for the IMAP server compatibility. The problem being that if I create a new
e-mail account and darg across all the folders form the Outlook 2003 Unicode
folders to the old folders then I will get the same problem all over again -
the e-mails visible but not deletable.

Where am I going wrong? Is there a simple workaround? With a mailbox of
around 1.6 Gbytes it takes forever to test options etc.

Thanks in adavnce....

Can't be done. IMAP PSTs can never by specified as the delivery location,
so you'll always have at least one more folder set that is the default.

Yes, all IMAP PSTs are ANSI-format, alas, but I doubt it has anything to do
with server compatibility.

Try disabling the "Use Unicode Message Format" option on
Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Options. I don't know that will help, but I've
solved some ANSI-Unicode issues with it.

Many thanks for posting this helpful reply. I tried the option in the
advanced tab of savinbg messages with Unicode format but to no avail. I still
couldn't drag a message from a new mail box into the original one and be able
to delete that message.

Just so that I understand your thinking -
all incoming mail must be delivered to a Unicode mailbox.
All sent mail must be from an Ansi mailbox.
I cannot configure Outlook to deliver incominmg mail to the same e-mail
account as outgoing mail is sent from.
I cannot drag a mail item from a Unicode e-mail account to an Ansi e-mail
account and still be able to delete it in the Ansi mail box/folder.

If this is the case then I will have to run with two mail accounts and split
all mail between them - very frustrating.

Do you think Microsoft will be producing a workaround for this at any stage
- seems very messy.

Many thanks for your thoughts and help so far...

Edmund
