Outlook Import Replace Duplicates and Preserve Distribution List Links

My question is whether or not the 'links' from members of Distribution
Lists back to the their home data in the Contact Folder are preserved
when the Contact Folder is updated with an import using the "Replace
duplicates with items imported" choice. I am using Outlook 2000 in
IMO mode and Windows XP.

I hope that you can tell me how to do this as my experiments seem to
show this is not possible. In my experiment I go to the external
database application, modify the email address for a member and then
do the export/import. I do find the new, modified address appearing
in the Outlook Contact list. But when I open a Distribution List to
which this contact belongs and do a "Update Now", no change occurs in
the indicated E-mail field shown there for that contact.

Have I missed doing something else that will cause the Distribution
List to also reflect the new information? I have 4 users who will be
receiving these membership updates, and I do not want them to have to
reconstruct their Distribution Lists everytime a membership update
comes in from the external data base.

Thanks in advance for your assistance. Tony
