Outlook in Image

J

Joanne Finger

I am building an image and have installed Office 2003 on it.
I will be syspreping the image as it will be used for many PC's.
I need to configure Outlook in the image, so that the end-user has nothing
to do, but open Outlook when they log on. (Their credentials for the
Exchange server will already be in place etc.)

How can I achieve this? I'm aware of the Office resource tools, custom
installation wizard etc, but can that be used for what I need, or is that
only for deploying msi's?

Yes, the Office Resource Kit (more specifically the Custom Install Wizard)
will help you achieve this. (There is a page in the CIW that lets you set
Outlook profile information. Note: Stay away from trying to use variables
like %USERNAME% as it doesn't work.)

Thanks for your response.

Could u briefly give me a step by step of what to do?

I'm a little confused how to achieve this, so it can be built into the image
I'm creating, which will then be sysprep'd.

Cheers.

Basically you will use the CIW to build a transform file (MST) that contains
the programs/options you want installed + an Outlook profile (*.prf). Once
you complete the wizard, just set the option to save the *.MST and such into
the same place where you are going to store a cached cd <?> copy of Office
2003. You use this distribution point to install Office 2003 onto your
pristine WinXP image. Happy syprep'ing & testing.

I already have an MST and PRF, as they were created when we wanted to
deploy Office via GPO. I know they work via GPO.
I have installed Office onto my WinXP image from the place I store the
setup.exe, MST file etc.
I'm obviously doing something wrong, cos when i run Outlook it asks for
info that should have been set in the CIW & PRF.
