Outlook keeps freezing

I have just formatted my disk and reinstalled windows XP. I have MSOffice
2003. It was working fine, but now it seems to take ages to load and then
send and receive. However, it downloads any messages but when I try and
access old email it just freezes.
Does anybody know what this could be. I have tried fixing Outlook and then
reinstalling it, but the problem is still there. Could MS Messenger cause
this problem or what?

Sal,
This appears to be a common new problem related to an Office update. See
the posts on "Outlook 2003 appears to freeze " on 28/06/07. drh
