outlook locks

I am using Outlook in Office XP professional 2002 with a Sony VAIO notebook
with 1.73 Centrino, 1 Gb mem, 80 Gg HD. Outlook ran OK for a while, then it
started locking up when I tried to start it. (There is no error message).
I've run the updates at microsoft.com. I do the reinstall thing from the
safe mode, and it will run one time. Next time it locks. During shut down I
get the "WMS idle program is not responding". Shut down takes minutes. The
WMS problem doesn't occur after the first time (when Outlook actually starts).

Any suggestions? I am about to throw the computer out the window!!

You should post to an Outlook support newsgroup. This newsgroup supports
the OneNote program only. Personally, I'd do a very thorough check of the
system with at least two anti-virus programs running the latest definitions,
and make sure you also have no spyware/malware/Trojans on the system by
checking the information here: www.aumha.org/secure.htm.
