Outlook looking for exchange server but don't have one

A friend had to reinstall his PC. He now cannot run Outlook 2003. When it
starts it looks for an Exchange server and he does not have one. He wants to
use POP3 and a .pst file but a pop up asks for his Exchange server and .ost
file. Cancelling it produces more boxes and eventually closes Outlook.

Do we need to edit the registrary to stop this?

Nope. Use the mail applet in the control panel to create a new mail profile
and delete the existing one.

Assuming your operating system is Windows XP, open the control panel.

* If you see "Pick a category" at the top of the window - look to the left
and you should see a link labeled "Switch to Classic View", click on it.

Now you should see the Mail applet. Click on it and then pick the show
profiles button.
