Outlook mail rules

I have set up repeatedly what I think are proper mail rules, mainly to direct
incoming mail from the inbox to other folders.

They do not execute.

Here is one of those rules: (tried to copy a snagged window. That does not
work here.)
Rules & Alerts window, lower box:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
from ASME (*@*asme.org)
move it to the ASME & ANS folder

Just started from running Outlook with 'cleanrules' switch, no success.

Running Office 2007, Win Vista Ultimate, straight forward Pop3/smtp accounts.

Any help would be appreciated.

Outlook's rules do not support or recognize wildcard characters, so your
rule will never match anything. Make your string "asme.org" instead and be
sure to add the "stop processing more rules" action.

ASME.org, like most other large organizations will send email with many
different 'prefixes' like '(e-mail address removed)'. How do I then assign
them all to be put into the ASME folder?

Furthermore, I just tried to do the rule with just 'asme.org'.

in the address book it will not accept that as a valid email address. If I
just type it in on the bottom line of the window that opens, it will reply
'MS.. Off.. Outl.. does not recognize asme.org', so that is not possible
either.

Use the "with specific words in the sender's address" condition and not the
"from people or distribution list" condition.

Outlook's rules work on strings. "asme.org" is just a string and a rule
looking for that string with the condition I suggest will find it no matter
where it occurs. If it's a substring of a longer address, it will stilll
work, so it will match (e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed) or any other address
that contains the string "asme.org". It will also match (e-mail address removed) or
(e-mail address removed) as well, but I think it unlikely you'll run into those
situations.

See my reply to your penultimate post.

Thxs for the clarification on strings & the condition to use. That will
greatly simplify things.

What do you mean by the ' "stop processing more rules" action '? I cannot
find any reference in Outlook Help to such an action. What does it do & how
do I implement it?

Thxs again, Peter K.

In the list where you choose the "move" action, the "stop processing" action
will be listes as well, toward the bottom. Select it along with the move
action.
