A malware program called WinAntiVirus PRO 2006 attacked my machine over the
weekend. I've been trying to resolve the issues the entire day. I can't see
my McAfee antivirus and security center screens. Ad-Aware and AdBot were
used to remove the malware but there appears to be residual damage; I'm
unable to get my mail in Outlook 2003.

Can anyone give point me in a direction where I might begin to check for
possible root causes in Outlook? I just discovered this phase of the issue
about 18 hours into the project. Someone reported that there was a conflict
with IE7 beta 2, which I was running, and it was recommended to fall back to
IE6. I'm in the process of doing that but now I see I can send or receive
mail from Outlook.

For me, malware = reinstall.

When you open up Outlook, there is usually errors that form a troublshooting
angle.
Also the system and application event logs in Windows.

I assume these issues can't be solved by merely restoring to an earlier
point?

One of the recommendations someone gave me to solve what I thought was my
only problem with the blank McAfee screens was to drop back to IE6 from IE7.
I did that but when I did, 3/4 of the icons listed under Programs changed to
a generic picture of a folder with data. When I went to Control
Panel/Add/Remove Programs, I also noted several had no size of file reported
and the "Last Date Used" looked incorrect in a number of cases.

When attempting to update IE6 at the MS Site, I received a message asking me
to accept it as a Trusted Site under Control Panel/Internet
Options/Security. None were listed and I wasn't able to add MS 'cause the
"Add" button was disabled and I was referred to the "administrator". I'm the
only administrator in my little home network. I don't know what I'm expected
to do here.
