outlook mailbox password wont save...why

I have Outlook 2000 SR1 and I have 2 email profiles. I
check the "remember password" whenever I log on...but it
never does remember. It used to remember for the
duration of a session of use. Now I'm just getting
failures. I have tried the detect and recover with the
cd rom and it has not helped......help!
