outlook makes my hard drive run constantly. Why?

It's driving me crazy. I like to leave open all day to get my e-mail, but I
can't stand it.

I can't find anything about this in any of the help or FAQ files. I know it
must be automatically set to monitor or index or archive something or other,
and I can't figure out how to turn it off.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

First; update your antivirus definitions and scan for viruses.
Second, remove all spyware. Microsoft AntiSpyware (Beta) is available and
works well: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en

Version of both windows and outlook? What addins do you have installed in
Outlook and do you have any 3rd party apps installs that interface with
outlook - includes lookout and other indexing software.

Two things come to mind - it's compacting during idle time or autoarchive is
running - but it could be other things, depending on your versions of
software and programs that are installed.

Oops, sorry -- I have Windows XP Home and outlook 2003. As far as I know I
don't have any add-ins or third party software interfacing with it.

I did try to turn off auto archive, but it said it was already off. It does
seem to be something it's deciding to do while outlook (not the rest of the
computer) is idle, because it doesn't start until 3-5 minutes after I have
started up outlook.

I did run a virus and spywear scan and didn't find anything.

Thanks so much for your help.
