Outlook message previewer stopped working

My Outlook 2007 message & item previewer has suddenly stopped working. It
will no longer open .msg attachments. Does anyone know why the previewer has
stopped working? Is there a fast way to fix this (without having to uninstall
software?)

what happens when you try? it is possible to prevent attachment preview -
tools, trust center, attachment preview.

When I try to open an Outlook attachment, I get the following message:

previewer:

To open this file in its own program, double-click it.

The attachments are Outlook message files. Other attachments (jpg, doc,
pdf, etc) open fine. Outlook message attachments that opened before will no
longer open. If I forward the email message to another email system (i.e.,
my Comcast account, Hotmail, etc.) the attachments open correctly.

Try Detect and Repair (Help, Office diagnostics) - that should fix it.

I reinstalled Office and that still hasn't helped!!
Don't know what to do next!

Just came across something...

I uninstalled my "google desktop" and now my previewer works fine!

Hope this is a help to you!!

Thank you for this suggestion. Why hasn't Google done anything about this or
to put a notice when installing the Google Desktop. I spent the night
uninstalling program that i had load just prior to this problem, including
removing the anitvirus which i had just upgraded!

Sorry I haven't replied sooner - I've been out of pocket for a few days.

I tried the Google toolbar uninstall. That fixed the problem! Thank
goodness I hadn't started uninstalling a lot of software to find the answer.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and your expertise. Hopefully I'll be
able to return the favor someday for someone out here!

I had the same problem being unable to open email attachments in Office 2007.
As suggested I uninstalled the Google toolbar. It worked. Thank you. I
never would have found this on my own. Problem solved. While I was at it, I
uninstalled Google's desktop search.

Then I reinstalled the Google toolbar and can still open email attachments.
Maybe my problem was caused by the sequence in which I installed Office 2007.
I had Outlook 2003 and upgraded to Office 2007. Excel and Word installed
but it said it couldn't install Outlook 2007. I had to uninstall Outlook
2003 first then install 2007. After that I couldn't open attachments until I
uninstalled the Google toolbar.

This post will be old for those looking for answers earlier but for those
still struggling, I too found that Google Desktop was the culprit. I removed
it and all was well again with .msg files.
