Outlook missing MAPIR.dll error

I've been trailing the office 2003 Beta and now that is has expired I've uninstalled it and re-installed my copy of office XP. The problem is Outlook XP won't launch any more. I keep getting the error

This application has failed to start becaus MAPIR.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

It doesn't! It seems there was never a MAPIR.dll on the machine. A web search on that dll comes up with nothing. Has anyone else seen this? How can I sort it out?
