Outlook not connecting

Hi
I have an Windows 2K SBS server running Exchange 2K with 15 Win2K/XP
Clients, and have a problem with 2 of them. These 2 PC's are in the same
Office and both use Outlook 2000.

The problem is that when the first client logs on to Outlook through
Exchange they connect normally. However when the 2nd client tries to log on
to Outlook it just times out. They keep trying through out the day and
eventually log after about 3 or 4 hours, even if they reboot the PC. If the
1st logs off the 2nd gets in straight away, but when the first tries to log
on the same problem occurs.

I have run the ping command using both the server name and IP address on
both machine. On the machine that has logged in both commands receive a
reply. Running the same command always times out on the server name and
sometimes when pinging the IP address.

This is the only 2 machines that this happens to and this has been going on
for some months now. We have formatted and re-installed both machine (they
were using win98) and even bought 2 new Dell's with Win 2K and this has not
resolved the issue. Both machines can access data files on the server and
both have unique IP addresses and Names.

The users are at theirs wits end and are consequently spreading it around.
Does anyone have any idea why this should be so? or could point me in the
right direction to resolving this?

Cheers
Tony

Since you even bought a new machine you can rule out a lot already and are
basically left with a bad connection or bad users.

The first one is easy; use a network cable from a machine you know that
works correctly.

Second; are you using Roaming profiles? Do things work when someone else
logs on to that machine? Create a new user profile and see if that resolves
the issue. If that doesn't fix it recreate the mailbox. If things still fail
even recreate the user in AD.

Thanx Robert
I don't see how this will affect 2 machines, however will try different
cables.

Not using Roaming Profiles as users always sit at the same desk. Will try
and get someone else to log on and see what happens. Already created new
user profile and also recreated user in AD.

Thanks for the advice, any other ideas?
