Do you mean that when you open the Notes folder again after restarting Outlook
that it's empty or that you don't see the Notes folder? If the former, have
you reset the view on the folder? If the latter, have you tried using the
Notes or Folder List view of the Navigation Pane?
The Notes folder is there but it is empty. Also
I just shut down Outlook and opend it and all was well, but every night the
Notes folder has its contents removed. I recall this happening to me a
couple years ago and someone figured out a control I had to toggle, but for
the life of me I can't find that toggle to set again or remeber what to do.

Have you tried starting Outlook once with the /cleanviews command switch?
This will delete all custom views and Outlook will use the views as supplied
by Microsoft.
