Outlook offline without Exchange Server

I'm using home networking with a desktop pc as the main
box and a tablet pc as a client.
I'd like to use Outlook offline on the tablet pc. How
can I do this as I do not have Exchange Server?

So how does Activesync do this for PDAs?

What relevance does this have with Offline Folders and Exchange?

Activesync works with your Outlook installation. Outlook will have to be
open to sync. What else is there to know? Or am I not understanding what
it is you are asking?
