Outlook opens, goes to systray, and then closes

installed office 2003 on vista home prem. machine. worked fine but now will
not remain open. I open the program; get an initial screen which then
minimizes to the systray. If I place my mouse on it, it goes away. Task
manager tells me that program is not running even though it is in the system
tray.
