Outlook options greyed out

Hi all,

I've had OneNote for a few days and have sort of got things all set up the
way I want. I'm running OneNote 2007 'Home and Student' edition (couldn't
find info about any other editions) on two computers: one dell laptop running
vista home pro/office sbe with access 2003 added, and one desktop running xp
pro (media center) with office 2003 standard with access 2003 added.

My notebooks are shared now, with the files residing on the laptop (though
the problem existed before I set up the sharing).

The problem I'm having is with the three options in OneNote that create
Outlook items: one under 'insert>outlook task' and the other two under the
'tools>create outlook item'. All those options are greyed out on my laptop.
They all function fine on the desktop.

I've seen some posts and blog entries where others have had the same
problem, but I haven't seen any answers.

Any ideas? I've tried all manner of opening and closing onenote (with and
without outlook open), and all options for selecting items to apply the menu
commands in onenote to (read: select entire object or just click inside it
and then try to send as appointment). Nothing works. I've read where others
have reinstalled onenote with no benefit.

Any new info?

In outlook on my laptop, I CAN send an email to OneNote.

I found a solution for me I think. Maybe it will work for someone else.

I was messing around reading a few things online and was reading about
emailing a page from onenote, so I tried it. Clicked on a page and hit the
email button. I then closed the window (not wanting to send the email), but
it closed all of onenote. When I reopened it: VOILA. Outlook task
functionality available.

Apparently, for me at least, firing the email thing re-established the
necessary connection that allows the rest of the outlook functionality to
work.

Thank you, thank you. I spent the better part of the day trying to solve this problem. I followed your instructions and it worked for me too. Hallelujah!

Puzzling what unconnects it though. It worked for me earlier and then poof it was broken. At least I know what to do now! Thanks for taking the time to post it. I couldn't find it anywhere else on the inet.
