outlook pastwords - passwords

Sal

I am using xp media center

I have duplicate sets of outlook psts on my desktop and laptop - the main
outlook.pst opens with a passwood and preceeding ones open afterway.

I was trying to sync the files - the outlook pst went ok the others are
requiring passwords which I thought I'd removed.

how do the other pst open without a password? is the "password list" a
file or a list you think (I'm not sure where I buried mine when I moved)

any advice / suggestions

After supplying the password, right click the pst-file and choose Properties
and then Advanced. Here you'll find a "Change password" button. To remove
the password leave the new password blank and press OK.

The "password list" only remembers passwords for you and supply it
automatically when prompted. You cannot restore passwords from it when you
forget them. That would be considered a security risk as attackers could
then capture that file and walk away with all your passwords.

thanks very much reply - apparently I did not make myself clear - I've been
using outlook since it first came out and am familiar with the program and
adding and chaning passwords. In my case, I have several extra psts that I
open and use, these I thought I removed some time ago am looking for the
little book I wrote them down in.

"the password list" is somewhat a mystery - I can't remember when I put
in/removed passwords if this box was checked. how do you recall /find the
password list?

at worse, can I export the folders/notes/calender events from these psts -
which always open without prompting (after I use the password for my main
personal outlook.pst) into new psts and start over with new passwords??

thanks very much for your support

As I said, the password list is not for retrieving lost passwords. You can
see which type of passwords you have remembered in your Windows Account
configuration in Control Panel. Look for "Manage your network passwords" or
something similar.

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve here. Do you want to add, change
or remove a password from a current pst-file? I don't see the relation for
creating another pst-file in what you are trying to achieve.

If you are trying to access a pst-file for which you have lost your password
you can try the following tool for ANSI formatted pst-files;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/passwordonpst.htm

If that fails, you'll need a 3rd party commercial recovery tool such as;

Again thanks your prompt reply. One problem is that I don't understand how
the two addtional psts files open without a prompt for a password.

secondly I sync my psts on my desktop to my laptop using easy2sync for
outlook (have yet to look at MS's new sync toy to see if any better/eaiser)
and there is where I'm being asked for a password. Again I've tried my usual
9-10 passwords I use but no good.

I was only thinking exporting the data to new psts in case I could not solve
this password problem. Syncing desktop to laptop IS VERY IMPORTANT to me

I will try your suggestions and revert.

again Thanks
