Outlook popup says it has a problem

....the popup says it has encountered a problem and must close. Why does this
happen? and how can I stop it. It happens
frequently. this is a new computer with preloaded software.

First plan of action...

Go to microsoft update and get all unapplied service packs and patches.
update.microsoft.com
(or maybe officeupdate.microsoft.com)

While you are at it, Start | Window Update and apply all critical updates.
