Outlook Professional 2003 slow

I have the above version of Outlook and I have a brand new computer, very
powerful and capable. Yet, my outlook program is very slow. It takes a few
seconds before I can preview any e-mail message. it is irritating. what could
the problem be? thank you. Please bare in mind that I am computer illiterate,
so every command must be for dummies.

To improve outlook performance considerably, remove the attachments
and compact the pst file:
