Outlook Profile Creation

C

Craig

Hi,

Could someone explain how I can create a outlook profile for a user
automatically when they log on to a PC if one doesn't currently exist.
I've had a quick Google, but all I can only find third party software,
is there a Microsoft way, or script available?

Many thanks,
Craig

Microsoft uses text files with a .prf extension and a highly structured format to provide information to OUtlook that enables Outlook to create or modify a mail profile. You can create such .prf files with the Custom Installation Wizard or Custom Maintenance Wizard tools in the Office Resource Kit. For more details, including a variety of .prf deployment methods, read the excellent white paper "Configuring Outlook Profiles by Using a PRF File" at http://office.microsoft.com/search/redir.aspx?assetid=HA011403051033&QueryID=pHm7c_60I&respos=3

The page at http://www.slipstick.com/exs/olroam.htm includes information on other profile tools and resources.

Hi Sue,

I have the same question as Craig, except perhaps that I am using
Windows2000 Server.

This site below seems to offer a very easy solution for me except that my
version of CIW might be different from the one described. It refers to 24
pages, where page 17 is for 'Outlook: Customize Default Profile' - however,
in my CIW it only has 16 pages, and nothing for Outlook Profiles.

Any suggestion as to why my CIW is different?

"At screen 4, click the 4 of 24 page button at the top of the screen and
select 17, Outlook: Customize Default Profile to jump to the correct screen,
or continue to click Next until you reach screen 17."

You didn't say what version of Office you're using the CIW from.
