Since Office 2000 I've been having this strange problem.
It may have existed earlier but I wouldn't have known
because I didn't try to manage multiple accounts on one
machine.
Now I have an ISP who provides me with 5 email accounts.
They all share the same POP3 and SMTP info but have
different username and password info.
I will go along fine for months picking up mail from all
the accounts quickly and easily and then all of a
sudden... Outlook can't remember a password to one or
more of my accounts. I check the box that says "remember
my password" and retype it carefully. I just click OK
hoping that it will pick it up. I click cancel thinking
that I'll just ignore that one this time. NOTHING
WORKS! Worse, sometimes 1 of those 3 responses will
actually fix it temporarily. Worse still, if I click
cancel and then manually click the Send/Receive button
I'll get my messages. That is until today!
Today my main email account... the most important of the
bunch will not pickup. I've tried every silly thing and
a few not so silly things and I can not get it to pick up
my mail.
As I said... this has been going on for 3 versions now.
I used 2000, XP and now 2003 and each version did the
same thing.
I searched the Knowledge Base and this was the official
response
"Password Prompt, Duplicate Messages Appear If Outlook
Profile Has Two POP3 Accounts
This article was previously published under Q284404
SYMPTOMS
When you log on to Microsoft Outlook by using a profile
that contains two Post Office Protocol (POP3) accounts,
you may be prompted to provide a password for one of the
accounts, and you may receive duplicate e-mail messages
from the accounts.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if your Outlook profile contains
two Internet accounts that both point to the same POP3
server.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, turn off e-mail reception for one
of the POP3 accounts:
In Outlook, on the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive
Settings, and then click Define Send/Receive Groups.
Double-click the group that contains the two POP3
accounts, and under Accounts, click one of the POP3
accounts.
Click to clear the Receive mail items check box.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the
Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of
this article.
MORE INFORMATION
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
Microsoft Outlook 2002"
What kind of crap is that!?!
Stop checking my other accounts so I can get one to work?
How about you make an email client that works!
Hey there's an idea! I'm frustrated beyond belief...
What's worse is the on again off again nature of this
issue.
If you have any solutions then I'd be happy to hear them.
