Outlook.pst file could not retrieve from previous file

Yong Kim Sang

I have recently formatted my PC and before I did that I
copied the outlook.pst (local setting/microsoft/outlook)
file out (backup) which was running on Windows 98.

After that, I installed the Windows 2000 Prof Operating
System and reinstalled the Outlook application. What I did
next was to cut and paste the outlook.pst file back to the
same location.

I have problem opening up my outlook with my information
restored. It keeps prompting me "Unable to open your
default email folders. Unable to display the folder.
Errors have been detected in the file .... outlook.pst.
Quit mail enabled application and then use the inbox
repair tool". After using the detect and repair tool, we
are still not able to open up.

Tried to import, the same error message occur.

What and where can I check to get this resolve.

Please help, I need my outlook inbox and all the relevant
data intact!!!

VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!

My Outlook Express was completely deleted when I
installed Service Pak 2. Twenty-seven hours I deleted
Service Pak 2, rolled back Outlook Express..and finally
regained my files. Have you had similar problems?

Detect and Repair is not the inbox repair tool. You'll need to use
scanpst.exe. Also make sure that the pst-file ins't marked as read only.
Once fixed connect to it by File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

This is not related to his issue.

Also note that Outlook Express isn't being discussed in this newsgroup. This
is an Microsoft Office Outlook forum.

Outlook Express is family of Internet Explorer and Outlook of the Office
family.

Here is the link for the right forum

Good Luck!

Bad news. This is guaranteed to ruin your mail profile if a PST of that
name already existed in that folder. Use SCANPST.EXE (the Inbox Repair
Tool) to attempt to fix the PST and then use File>Open>Personal Folders File
(not Import) to open the file.

People;

Please help. I have tried it. Did the scanpst. created a
bakcup of the outlook.pst file. Funny thing is this - I
went to File, Open, Personal Folder File and point it to
the outlook.pst file. Waiting and waited, there's no
respond. My previous inbox information still does not
display my previous information.

What more can I do? This is absolutely critical for me.

See if you can add it by closing Outlook and use Control Panel-> Mail
