outlook pst ost files

I like to put outlook ost and pst files on an external drive. it works well,
unless someone tries to access my profile when the drive is not attached. it
locks up outlook even after i reattach the drive. please have a way to allow
outlook to use external drive for ost and pst.

Outlook requires full read/write access to the data file, so if you open
outlook and the data file is not connected, then that is what will happen

i see what you are saying, but it should not cause a total system meltdown,
which it did, if outlook can get the files. outlook locked the files, but
could not read them when i reconnected. i had to give the drive a new
letter, delete the outlook file, and then reconnect the drive. it just seems
like outlook should be more resilant.
