OUTLOOK PST REPAIR TRIM

OUTLOOK PST

I learned not to exceed the 2GB limit using Windows 2000 Office in
Windows XP Pro.

Two weeks ago I exceeded the 2GB limit. I simply opened Outlook – and
deleted enough files to take Outlook to1.9 GB. I was able to work
within Outlook.

Today I exceeded the 2GB limit. When I launch Outlook it hung, with
the hourglass, and I had to forced quit. I couldn’t run the repair
tool because I was over 2GB. I found, Googling, that Microsoft had a
Trim Tool. I ran the Trim Tool and reduced the PST file to 1.93 GB. I
ran the repair tool, successfully. I opened Outlook however I could do
not operations. If I attempted to delete, the hour glass, and the
application hung. I force quit Outlook and attempted to send an email.
Whatever I did Outlook hung.

I faithfully exported PST. And I faithfully copied PST. So I have
backups. What I did was delete the current PST and pasted into my
Applications\Microsoft\Outlook folder a PST that was 1.3 GB.

I opened Outlook. And I was unable to delete, send, and so forth. I
ran the repair tool on this PST file, and the repair indicated that
there was Nothing wrong with the file.

I need to use my Outlook for business activities. Today I could do
nothing. If Trim tool, and Repair Tool, and past PST files all fail
what are my options? I need to get access to all functions of Outlook
2000.

Let me know what can be done. Do I uninstall office, and reinstall? I
am completely stuck and need your help.
Thanks
John Marshall

Outlook 2k can baulk at or above 1.6gb
You should use the archive options, but need to remember the archive also
has the size limitation, therefore from time to time you would need to set
your archive options to a new archive file name, which will be created when
you run archive.
Try running Detect/Repair either from within Outlook or by using the
Outlook/Office cd
If that doesnt work Create a new Outlook Profile, via the mail applet in the
control panel, add a new data file and the accounts

Two things wrong here. 1) Export is not backup. Exporting always loses data
and is never the way to transfer data from one Outlook instance to another or
to back up your current data. The correct way is simply to make a copy of the
PST while Outlook is closed. 2) Never overwrite a PST that is part of a mail
profile. You will corrupt the mail profile, which it looks like you did. If
you have Outlook 2000 installing in Corporate/Workgroup mode, you can repair
the profile easily with the Mail applet in Control Panel (Show Profiles>Add).
If you have it installed in Internet Mail Only mode, then a new profile takes
registry editing. Tell us the installation mode.
Let me know what can be done. Do I uninstall office, and reinstall? I

Reinstalling will not correct the type of problem you have. You need to
start with a new mail profile.
