We are running Office 2003 SP1 (soon to be SP2) with Exchange 2003 (I believe
SP1 as well). We are running Outlook in cached mode.
The Outlook status for some users randomly changes from Connected to
Disconnected (not work offline). The users are connected to our network -
they can bring up web pages, network connections, etc. - but it looks like
Outlook does not recognize this. Various things seem to reconnect Outlook.
The following are some of the steps that have helped connect Outlook - doing
one of these might connect one person's machine, but not another:
- Close Outlook, disable the wireless card, and open Outlook.
- Take the PC off the docking station and put the network cable directly
into the machine.
- Run ipconfig /renew from the command line.
Sometimes Outlook connects on its own. If a user has the problem one time
and becomes disconnected again, the solution that fixed him before might not
work again.
The users are all laptop users who use both our wireless and our LAN
connection. When their computers are in the docking station, they are
connected to the LAN, but wireless takes over when the PC is not docked.
