Outlook remembers bad address even after I change contacts

I am using Outlook 2002 on Windows XP Professional.

When I begin a new e-mail message, and start typing a
name, Outlook suggests e-mail aliases from its internal
list that it thinks match who I want to contact. This is a
good thing.

Problem is, even after I change somebody's e-mail address
in their contact file, Outlook will continue to suggest
the old address along with the new one.

I have tried to remove the address book, restart, and
reset the address book based on the contact list, but this
does not help. I have deleted the contact card entirely
and re-added it to no avail.

How do I make Outlook forget the old e-mail addresses I
have typed?

This is very troubling, as everytime people change e-mail
addresses, Outlook keeps hanging on

Those addresses are stored in a file with the extension of .NK2. You can do
two things.

1. Delete this file. This will remove all automatic name completion from
Outlook and start over.
2. As you start to type in the wrong name, use the arrow keys to highlight
the wrong name and press the delete key on the keyboard. That will remove
only the wrong name from the file.

Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:

Can't thank you enough. This has plagued me for about a
year. I searched the Knowleded base many times but never
found this article???
