Outlook reminders in Project 2002

owl37

Hi all,
I'm completely stumped!
I am trying to set reminders in outlook from MS PRoject 2002.
The function didn't appear to be there so I have tried installing the
WGSetup.exe.
However, it still hasn't worked! Really not sure where to go now, any
suggestions gratefully received!

Hi owl37,

In addition to installing the WGSetup.exe file on the computers for all
users who will be using the e-mail collaboration, you will also need to
set a couple of other things:

Make sure your resources have email addresses. (You may add the [Email
Address] field to the resource sheet to enter the data.)

You will need to set the collaboration options for the project file in
Tools > Options, Collaborate tab.

On the General tab of the Options dialog box, make sure your name is
entered.

You will then need to "publish" the assignments through Collaborate >
Publish.

Take a look at Help for topics on "workgroup" and "e-mail" and
"collaboration"

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie,
First of all thanks! You set me on the right track as I can now get project
to send me an email although not reminders.
I probably should have given some background to this question first.
I am working with colleagues looking at how project can help track projects.
As yet we have not bought project server. So what I was trying to do was
demonstrate how project could set a reminder in outlook on a local machine.
As mentioned I can now get emails sent but I guess this won't go into
outlook calendar. I will have a look at Project help, but I'm thinking we
might have to get project server before we can use this.
In Project 2000 it was really easy to do this!

Sorry Julie,
I have just opened the email and relpied and it has sent the task into my
task list!
It seems you have to set reminders then in the task. Think I am getting
there. Thanks.

Hi owl37,

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. So glad to got it to work.

Sorry I forgot to mention that the tasks from Project appear as tasks in
Outlook. You do have to reply to the message (accepting it) before it will
add the task I believe.

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. As a suggestion, you may wish to
take a look at the information on Project Server installation, configuration
and other useful information found under the Project 2003 listing at:

http://project.mvps.org/links.htm

I hope this helps and good luck with Project Server.

Be advised that installing and rolling-out Project Server is definitely a
non-trivial endeavor. Study up and see if it is worth the time and money it
takes to do it right. It's an incredibly powerful tool but like a bazooka,
in the wrong organization or the wrong situation it may be expensive
overkill.

I am evaluating MS Project via a trial version. I am trying to see how the
E-mail task feature works but I don't seem to have the option of going into
the Tools/Options/collaborator to see how this works...does that sound right
for a trial version or is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Hello Henry,

Are you evaluating Project Professional 2007 with Project Server 2007?
The Tools > Options collaborate are only functional when connect to
Project Server.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
