I have several users who when they try to open Outlook it takes a long time to connect. If first gives a "Exchange server unavailable, Retry, Work Offline" error, but if you hit Retry it connects. I have found several other people in the news groups with the same issue and no apparent solution. I am running Exchange 2003 Ent. on Windows 2003 Ent and Outlook XP. At first I thought a DNS issue, but I have added the exchange server to the host file and I still get the same retry message. I thought it might be a RPC issue, but I created a new Outlook profile and enter the IP address for the exchange server (which is supposed to make outlook generate a RPCPING when you click check name) it resolves in less than a second. I am about out of ideas. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
