Outlook rule - unread and don't tell me about it!

Hi All,

I have a few Outlook (2003) rules to mark messages as unread and file
them in certain folders, but Outlook still raises the new mail alert
and puts the unread mail icon in the task bar (even if the message
gets marked as read). Is there a way to tell Outlook to *not* notify
me of certain messages?

Thanks for any assistance!

Rob

Hmmm...I have rules that move messages to subfolders (don't mark as read
though) and I never get any alerts on those messages. I'm running
Outlook 2007, but I don't recall getting those alerts back when I was
running 2003.

Do you really need the "Mark as Read" part or would moving to a
subfolder be sufficient?

Better is to disable the alert and create a rule to notify when mail arrives
that meets your conditions. I choose to ignore the sounds (I keep the
volume off) and the tray alert (too many other icons) and just check the
inbox every few hours.
