Outlook send problem - endless loop

A

AlexT.

Folks

I have a pretty weird problem for a few days: whenever trying to send
an e-mail Outlook 2007 SP1 goes into some sort of endless loop,
triggering multiple "sending e-mail" tasks (thousands of them
actually...) while actually not delivering anything.

I have tried

- to scan my PST (reported clean) and to re-create it from scratch;
- to change the SMTP server (although the original is working just
fine with other e-mail clients);
- to "repair" my Outlook installation;
- to disable my AV (Free AVG)

None of this is helping...

Actually my symptom is very similar to this thread

http://groups.google.com/group/micr...read/thread/af92871f112dd883/a308b639ca4df60e

which apparently was not resolved as far as I can say.

Any idea / suggestion welcome !

Hey - amazingly enough it seems that it worked (it was a task follow
up in my case).

THANKS !

Hmm... seems that I was too quick to declare victory... Problem is
back and this time mdbvu32.exe does not show anything pending in the
Outbox (short of the message I want to send, which I tried to delete
and resubmit without success).

So there must be something else...

Again any suggestion welcome !

Folks

me again...

Still having my problem and still scratching my head...

I tried to use the logging functionality in Outlook. As far as I can
say it looks "normal" but maybe some sharp eyed reader might spot
something

FWIW the message stays in the Outbox and nothing is delivered to the
recipient. This is regardless of the smtp server used (google's in
this case).

Again any suggestion welcome !

The 250 2.0.0 OK message at the end signifies that the server acknowledged
receipt of the message, so I agree: nothing unusual in the log. Have you
tried a new mail profile?

Good idea !

Did it and managed to send a few simple messages - but the problem is
back.

It seems to be somehow related to sending large (i.e. more than a few
K) messages, possibly with attachments, in not so perfect network
conditions (say weak wireless with intermittent drop). I'm not quite
sure of the exact chain of events but this will trigger the problem
within a few minutes - and no way to send *anything* after that,
regardless of message size or networking quality.

Seems there is some sort of but here but I muss confess that I am at
loss to fully diagnose it. I'm glad that Thunderbird exists so at
least I have a workaround :)

Make sure you're not scanning outgoing messages with an antivirus program.

Not seeing any solution to my problem I just did a fresh reinstall.
Just Vista SP1 and Office 2007 SP1. No antivirus, nothing... And the
problem still persists.

I am looking into my network but I am connecting at various places and
this only occurs when connectivity is flaky...regardless of the actual
place I am. The only somewhat non standard thing I am doing is that I
am using SSL on my SMTP server but this should not create any
problem...

I have seen some more reports of similar issues but I muss say that I
am surprised that it is not more widespread.
