Outlook Send/Recieve Progress - Repeating tasks

Hi i have a odd problem and can't seem to figure out why it is occuring.

I am using Outlook 2000 (i knwo) on Windows XP Pro.

When I send a eamil or recieve it is extremely slow or may even not ever
recieve. What ahappens is in the send recieve details tasks multiply and
thier progress never finishes. It will start as one "Sending..." remaing 20%.

then a second one will appear, then another and so on until it finally does
send. I am not sure what is happeneing. This same thing occurs when
recieving.

Anyone have a suggestion?

PS. the network connection doesn't matter, tried three differnet
connections, Air car, direct connect, and wireless. all same result.
Internet seems to work fine.
