Outlook sending error

My computer is less than 1 year old (Gateway GT5012), OS is Windows XP Media
Center, we use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.2900, and Outlook 2003; my ISP
is Valornet/Windstream and we have DSL service. For the past 4 days, we have
been able to receive emails, however, we get the following error message and
outgoing emails are stuck in our "Outbox":

Task 'Don L. Windham - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The
connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact
your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

We have contacted our ISP, Valornet/Windstream, and they have had us check
all the settings that concern the ISP and have said that everything is set up
properly and that the problem has to be within Outlook 2003.

We use Norton Internet Security for antivirus and internet security. The
last virus scan was 8-4-06 and the last virus definintion update was 8-7-06.
We have checked all the settings on Norton and we have disabled Norton to see
if there could be a conflict between them and we still get the same error
message.

Windows Firewall is loaded on this machine, however it is always "Off"
because we use Norton Internet Security.

Can you please advise what could be causing this problem?

Thank you for your help.

it sounds like an antivirus or firewall issue - try using system restore to
roll back to when it worked - I'm pretty sure it's caused by an update.
