Outlook sending out cancellation and update for appointment

Hullo. Running Exchange 2003. We have an employee who is updating a
recurring appointment by simply deleting some text in the note field
and attaching an agenda. The system then sends out several
cancellations and updates simultaneously. Could this be related to
her use of distribution lists? I remember reading if you modify the
attendees, Outlook will send out a cancellation and update to that
user. Any help would be appreciated.
