outlook shall allow tasks initiated by and linked with mails

Often worktasks are initiated by mails. During the process of dealing with a
task mails are written an/or mails are received.

A nice new feature would be a new construct, that accompanies such
working-processes like an umbrella. Under this umbrella mails, activities,
and tasks in relation to the time (+ maybe projected timelines) would be
covered.

The closest thing in outlook are tasks. The new task would be called
workstream-task.

It would be possible to initiated such a task directly from any received
mail. Later associations to sent or received mails could be added. A new view
over the time axis would allow to track the activities along the timeline
very nicely. User notes would be posted also in relation to the time axis.
This would e.g. allow to track and report the daily progress when dealing
with a problem. Time goals could be added for future dates which would could
trigger reminders.

E.g. when an incomming mail would be linked with a workstream-task a "quote
highlights" function would allow to carry the essence of the contribution
over to the workstream-task.

Seeing the larger picture this feature would enable personal, adhoc
workflows. In my office I often (only, when I think correctly) deal with
issues that begin with an incoming mail and end with an outgoing mail after
several days. Often already in the first mail a timeline is given. During the
process of dealing with the issue new mails are sent or received, queries are
placed, answers are received, conlusions are drawn, desicions are made, ...

The highlights of this new feature could be sold as follows:
- Flexible support of any thinkable sequence of worksteps
- Aggregate communication and content over the time
- Documentation of your acitivities
- Worksteps, analysis, desicions become traceable
- No information duplication (because of links to mails), what another
expert wrote is fully embedded into the task.

I don't see any features that comes close to this anywhere and yet it could
have the largest impact on daily working habits and offer the largest
improvement for the working convenience of any thinkable IT solution, IMO.
