Outlook should provide more options to maintain/compact pst files

With Outlook 2003, I have found that the system becomes unstable as the pst
file size increases. I searched on the web, and found third-party products
but Microsoft does not seem to included a good PST file maintenance system
yet. I believe PST files maintainance should be more automated. This would
save admins a lot of time and headache. I am talking about something like
diskeeper which will auto-defrag the PST file.

You didn't say what kind of .pst file you're using. The new format introduced in Outlook 2003 is much more stable and reliable than the older version. Outlook already automatically compacts .pst files and can also automatically remove old data through the autoarchive feature. Those two together provide all the automatic maintenance that most users need.
