Outlook should be modifed to allow for a user-selectable style of task
prioritization.
Today, Outlook's 2002/XP Tasks uses one number, ranging from 1-5, for the
priority, and Outlook 2003 uses a simple High, Normal, and Low flag. There
are many time mgmt classes that teaches that the A-level priorities are "must
do today", B-level priorities are "can do today after the A's are done", and
C-levels are "can do after the B's are done", with a numeric ranking in each
(A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, etc). It should sort according to the
priority first, followed by the rank number. Ex: All A-level tasks come
before all B-level tasks. Inside the A-level tasks, the rank number is
sorted. Ex: A1 comes before A2, and so on.
You can eliminate a lot of software programs in the market by just adding
this one feature, because the rest of what Outlook has is already working
great for all time mgmt practitioners.
I suggest that you look at the FranklinCovey PlanPlus for Outlook
application to see how this is being done today.
