Outlook starting WINWORD

I have Outlook start with my computer for calendar. I have found by accessing the Task Manager in XP Home (Ctrl+Alt+Del) that
WINWORD.EXE opens with it. Why is that, and how do I prevent this from happening?

I prevent it by using another email client. Outlook 2007 uses Word as its
composer and renderer.

If you are on a version earlier than Outlook 2007, then you are using Word
as your email editor and it is changed in Tools-->Options-->Mail format
