I have Office 2000 on XP SP3. I used to use Outlook 2000 and always set it
in "Tools/Options/Other/Advanced options" to start in the calendar view. For
a few months I have been using Palm desktop, and so uninstalled Outlook.
Recently I had to wipe the drive, install XP from scratch and set everything
up fresh. I decided to return to Outlook and installed it with the rest of
Office 2000. Now however it persists in starting up in the Inbox view,
regardless of what I set it to start in. I have Office patched to SP3 and
cannot find any reason for this behaviour which I have never seen before in
several years of using Office 2000. Can some kind soul who knows more about
this that I do offer any suggestions please?

I had a similar problem with outlook xp, the application always opened to the inbox and would not
give me the apply option when changing the advanced options.

Where do you start outlook from when you run it? Do you have a shortcut in the start menu or the
office shortcut bar?

What i did after reading about /switches, was to delete the shortcut from my start menu then from
the office folder where outlook.exe resides was to pin outlook to the start menu by right-clicking
and selecting 'pin to start menu'.

This worked for me as when i launched outlook it went straight to the calendar. I wanted Outlook
Today as the default opening view, so i checked the advanced options, selected Outlook Today as the
view on opening, (still could not select the apply button) but exited out and relaunched and
Outlook:Today is the opening view, which is what i was wanting...

You could also check the Customize Outlook Today and probably uncheck (if checked) the When
starting, go to Outlook Today...

PS. You could probably try creating a shortcut and setting a switch to open with the calendar view.
I found that with my shortcut in the start menu i cannot add any switches and as i do not show
desktop icons on my laptop i haven't tested this option, but as the link in the start menu works, i
don't need too.

I read a site from http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/resetview.htm about the switches and tried
the above, which worked for me.
