Outlook startup problem

Good day -

Using Outlook 2000 on a Windows Home XP laptop. I believe that all the
service packs, patches, fixes, spit and chicken wire are applied.

Three or four times a week, Outlook hangs at the splash screen and won't
start. The background remains white - the dividing bars don't appear. In
other words, nothing. Closing Outlook with the "Close" button at upper right
may or may not work. A look at Task Manager indicates that an of Outlook is
running. Closing Outlook from Task Manager works more reliably than the
"Close" button, but not always. Sometimes I have to reboot in order to shut
Outlook down.

This problem sometimes persists even after rebooting once or twice. Repeated
attempt to start Outlook cause multiple instances to appear in Task Manager.

Any ideas on this problem...KB articles, anything?

Thank you.

1.. Try running scanpst.exe on your Personal Folder. By default
scanpst.exe can be found here;
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\<locale ID>

2.. Try renaming outcmd.dat to .old and restart Outlook. All the Toolbars
will reset then. This is quite a common problem with Outlook . The default
location for this file is:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

3.. Try recreating the profile in Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show
Profiles...

4.. Try running Outlook with the /safe switch from your Start-> Run
window. The command line should look like this (check your path to
Outlook.exe);
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe" /safe
When this works run Help-> Detect and Repair

5.. Start in safe mode again and disable individual add-ons in Tools->
Options-> tab Other-> button Advanced E-mail Options...-> button Add-In
Manager.../COM Add-ins...
