Outlook stops working when trying to open message in inbox

I upgraded office 2003 to office 2007 and ever since then I have trouble
opening messages in inbox of outlook when outlook will stop working and needs
to closed down. This happens on an inconsistant basis and sometimes just
stoppng inbox in task managar gets it going again.
Did I miss something while upgrading so that maybe the outlook 2003 did not
get removed and is creating the conflict?
Anybody has an idea?

Presumably you've run Office Diagnostics?
Then with outlook closed you ran scanpst.exe against your data file?

Office diagnostics is fine. No problems reported.However when running
scanpst.exe computer freezes when the program is trying to save a backup.
I think about totally removing office 2007 and any remains of office 2003
and re-install office 2007.
