Outlook suddenly will not send email; receiving email normally

Hi,
For the last 4 days, Outlook will not send my messages. It still receives
normally. However, I have to go to my email provider's site (for webmail) in
order to send emails. Of course, there I don't have the messages to reply to
or my Contacts. It's a pain. I spoke with the email/internet provider to make
sure my Incoming (pop3) and Outgoing (smtp) server address info was correct.
It is. However, it still won't send emails. They said it must be something
with Microsoft.

I have Outlook 2003. When I go to Tools, then Email Accounts, and I view my
existing account, I can click "Test Account Settings." This does everything
right except "Find outgoing mail server" (says Failed) and "Send test email
message" (says Failed).

Here is what it says under Errors. "Send test email message: The specified
serve was found, but there was no response from the server. Please verify
that the port and SSL information is correct. To access these settings close
this dialog, then Click More Settings and click on the Advanced tab."

"Find outgoing mail server: Unable to connect to the outgoing mail server
(SMTP). Please verify the server name in the outgoing mail server field. If
that information is correct, close this dialog, click More Settings and
verify the port and SSL information on the Advanced tab."

The server names are correct, as I checked with my provider. What is the
port and SSL? Could these suddenly not be working?

Can anyone please help?! Thank you so much.

This could be caused by your antivirus program misbehaving. Have you rebooted
lately? Also, temporarily turn off scanning of outgoing email by your
antivirus program and see if it starts working.

I've had this issue in the past and you may have to update your antivirus
software to fix the problem.

The most recent set of updates from Microsoft have been causing issues with
networking and Outlook in particular. Use your update history to identify
the most recent Outlook updates and uninstall them.

Maybe your e-mail provider changed from the standard port 25 for SMTP to
requiring a different port, like maybe 587. Call your e-mail provider
to verify the settings for the SMTP server in the e-mail account defined
within Outlook are correct.

Hi there ppl,

This is a problem that I have seen multiple times. It appears to be some
sort of bug in MS Outlook 2003 and POP accounts. Outlook tries to connect to
your POP server with an SSL port even though you don't have use SSL to
connect to the mail server. One day email is working fine and the all of a
sudden outlook is trying to use the SSL port.

The fix that I have found is delete the Outlook profile and then recreate.
This usually resolves the issue. you may need to do this a few times if it
doesn't work the first time.

Outlook profiles can be changed in Control panel --> mail

It's an annoying bug that I have come a cross.
