outlook through a VPN

Hi,
I am using outlook on a laptop computer through a dialin VPN. Outlook is
authenticated onto the server once the vpn connection is established. Is
there a way to view the outlook email without creating an offline ost file
where the email can be viewed in outlook without pulling the data from the
server accross the VPN to the computer? It take a long time to do. Any
thoughts?
