Outlook throws out .exe attachments

A

Andriese

Nice that Outlook 2003 XP cares about my PC-Health, but I received an email
with an .exe attachment that would repair my banking application.

Out with it, Outlook decided and deleted the attachment.
I can not find a parameter that controls this behaviour and that can be
changed by me.
I have 2 virus protection programs running and can take care of scrutinising
attachments. I don't need Outlook to do this for me.
How can I correct this?

There is an article on Microsoft's website (sorry I forgot the
articles title do a search for "can not recieve attachments" or
something similiar) for editing the regisrty so that you can receive
*.EXE files. However PLEASE NOTE this is not recommended as you can
receieve virus and such.

1> Virus protection isn't enough. Anyone can write a program to wipe your
hard drive that no virus detector would stop.
2> What bank is sending you a "program to fix your banking application" via
email? This is an insane security risk and I would recommend you find a new
bank. Assuming, of course, that the program really is from your bank, and
not a hacker.

http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm has information on how to
get to your attachments. However, I would have to agree with Eric that any
reputable institution sending out "fixes" via email and .exes is probably
not the place you would want to do business, if it is indeed legitimate.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
