outlook today - problem with tasks

since a few weeks, for one of our users, in outlook today, the 'tasks'
section shows a large gap between the check box and the text - due to this
the tasks can't really be read any longer

this is only for this user and when logged on from the client side

when a server admin logs onto the server and opens the mail account, it
looks just fine

when other users log on to this pc and open (their own) outlook today, it
looks just fine

for this user on another PC it still is wrong - even though we're not using
roaming profiles on the network

new profile and all that stuff, opening outlook with command line switches:
nothing has helped so far ....

am I overlooking something so simple I'll smack myself?
