Outlook Tries To Connect to Exchange on Startup but... I don't have an
exchange server. Upon failing to enter proper servers for exchange, the
program just closes on me. I never have a chance to access the menus and
play with the settings. I just want to set up regular accounts for home use.
I guess I need to dive into the registry and fix something.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but, naturally, office left a bunch
of junk in the registry so the problem persisted even after uninstalling and
reinstalling the entire office 2003 suite.

How about that, I managed to solve my own problem. I caused the problem by
allowing a professor to attempt to set up their own e-mail account. That was
extremely ignorant. The professor chose to set up a new account and then
selected exchange server instead of pop3... leading to my problem.

I fault Microsoft for forcing me to go into the control panel using the
"mail" icon to fix the problem as opposed to being able to fix it from within
Outlook (I just removed the partially configured exchange account fixing the
problem).

There are dozens of e-mail programs that can be used with Windows...why not
have a Mail applet within the Windows control panel that will work with
whatever you have chosen as your default mail program?
