I'm running Windows XP Professional 5.1, service pack 2, with Office 2000
that came installed when I purchased the computer. Outlook was always
problematic, locked up frequently (would not launch). I purchased Outlook
2002 and installed it, which lessened the problems, but not completely.
Recently, messages became inoperable--any attempt to send, delete or take
other action resulted in an error message that said "unknown error, if
problem persists, restart Outlook". Restarting had no effect. Repair
routine on installation CD had no effect, and uninstalling and reinstalling
had no effect. Interestingly, messages that were locked up in the Outbox
were nonetheless sent and received, though Outlook indicated they were still
in the Outbox.
I tried uninstalling again, and now today I can no longer even reinstall
Outlook. When the screen comes up identifying the applications to be
installed, Outlook has a red X next to it and in parentheses the word
"unavailable".
I then tried to install a recently purchased edition of Office 2003 Small
Business that includes Outlook 2003. But just as with the stand alone
Outlook CD, Outlook is "unavaliable". What has gone wrong?
