Outlook unexpected delete of mail

H

Hugh N. Ross

On Win XP Home, Office Pro, Outlook 2002 when I open a mail item in the
inbox, I can read it OK but if I click the 'X' to close the viewing window,
the mail item is deleted. It is not retained in the inbox and it is not
saved in the deleted items folder or anywhere else that I can find. Repair
operation did not fix the problem. I can only look at incomming mail once,
then it disappears.
Please help.

Click on Tools--->Options.
Select the Maintenance tab.
Uncheck the box beside "Empty messages in the Deleted Items folder on Exit"

Click OK

See if that helps.

Right click on your toolbar and select Advanced. In the dropdown window,
make sure you have "All messages": showing for the current view. It sounds
like you have "Unread messages" showing.
