Interesting proposal ... wouldn't all forms of advertising be self-serving
in some way or fashion??
If you are advertising a product, whether it is paid or free advertising,
you are trying to sell the product. The reason to sell the product is to
make money for yourself (and in this case, help others to understand more
about Outlook). Therefore, yes, advertising is self-serving, but very
necessary.
Is it actually spam when it is posted to a newsgroup?

advertising should include ADV or something similar in the subject to alert
the reader it's an advertisement, especially when the subject is what people
often use when they need help - as written it wastes our time because we
think it's a legitimate plea for help. We may ignore the subject in the
future, thinking its advertising this product.

Correct, of course.
Is it actually spam when it is posted to a newsgroup?

Absolutely, expecially when crossposted to so many groups. Read the
policies in
news.admin.net-abuse.* hierarchy.
